Speech of the General Secretary of the Gathering, Dr. Yahya Ghaddar

We welcome all the brothers and sisters who accepted this invitation from the members and friends of the Gathering.

In support and solidarity with the fighter Laith Maarouf, who supports the liberation of Palestine in the face of Zionist arrogance in Canada.

Laith is a prominent member of Community media advocacy to defend the rights of minorities in the Canadian media, which is facing a fierce judicial and media attack headed by the Canadian Prime Minister because of Laith’s position in support of the Palestinian cause and criticism of the criminality of global Zionism.

I will present a summary of his biography so that you can get to know him better.

Laith Marouf is an award-winning journalist and political commentator, working in media since 1999. He regularly appears on television and radio, including Radio Sputnik, Press TV, Al Mayadeen. He has also published with independent media such as Electronic Intifada, Mint Press, and more. Previously, Laith worked as the Executive Director of Community University Television (CUTV) and developed its award-winning Quebec Spring live broadcasts embedded within the student movement (2010-13).

Laith launched and hosted “Under the Olive Tree” the Palestinian community radio show airing on CKUT 90.3 FM in Montreal and CFRC 101.9 FM in Kingston (2005-10). He won the “Best Special Programming” award at the NCRA for his work on a 12-hour radio marathon with stations from Palestine, England, Canada and the United States that commemorated the 60th anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba (Radio Free Palestine, 2008).

Since 2015, Laith has worked as a Broadcasting Law Consultant at the Community Media Advocacy Centre (CMAC), specializing in the rights of Indigenous and Racialized communities to employment and reflection in the Television and Radio sectors.

The main objective of this unjust campaign is to force any association now and in the future to use the non-binding, illegal and outrageous definition of the term “anti-Semitism” as proposed by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA); Which considers the rejection of Zionism and the crimes committed in its name hateful.

Therefore, mere expression and transmission of the crimes of the Zionists will become anti-Semitism punishable by law..which is unconstitutional and illegal even in the Commonwealth of Nations.

Welcome to the activist brother Laith Maarouf. He also joined the Global Gathering to Support the Resistance Option, Canada Branch.

This is how Laith introduced himself:

Laith Marouf is a Palestinian/Syrian citizen of Canada. For the past 20 years, he has been one of the most vocal voices for the liberation of Palestine and in support of the Resistance. Since 1999, he produced print, radio and television content, held the positions of Equity Officer at the National Community Radio Association, Executive Director at CUTV Montreal, Project Manager at the Community Television Association, and since 2015 has been a Broadcasting Law consultant at the Community Media Advocacy Centre (CMAC).

His work has garnered attention from the Zionist Lobby, who are trying to ban him and CMAC from doing their work at the Canadian Radio and Television Commission (CRTC), where they have been able to expose Racisim in the Media. CMAC will have to defend itself in Court against a lawsuit initiated by the Government on the issue of the funds; and will have no choice but to initiate a Constitutional challenge against the CRTC banning its participation at the Commission. All this legal work will require lots of funds and time, but if CMAC wins these legal battles we will set precedents for all countries that follow Common Law.
