White House adviser and US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner described Washington’s plan for resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as the “opportunity of the century”.
Kushner made the remarks in his opening statement to a conference in Bahrain on Tuesday where the US is unveiling the economic part of its plan.
The two-day event in Manama was boycotted by the Palestinians who have also rejected the Trump administration’s plan, which promises financial investments but ignores the decades-long Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories.
Kushner’s opening presentation on Tuesday completely lacked any mention of the Israeli occupation.
Instead Trump’s son-in-law delivered a “direct message” to the people of Palestine.
“Despite what those who have let you down in the past say, President Trump and America have not given up on you,” he said.
Kushner and another one of the plan’s architects, US Middle East Special Envoy Jason Greenblatt, were also hosted by the Bahraini monarch on Tuesday.
Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa received the US delegation in one of his palaces where he hailed the strong partnership between Manama and Washington.
